This  sweeping romantic historical drama follows thirty years in the life of a great artist - loosely based on Gerhard Richter, one of the 20th century's most admired visual artists. Beginning with his childhood witnessing Nazi Germany, to his post-war education in East Berlin, where he falls in love with a young woman  whose father is an ex-Nazi official, to escaping to the West at the time of the Berlin Wall, he ultimately becomes part of the exciting new movement in contemporary art.

"...is nothing if not classical in its approach: It is stately and composed, clear-eyed and engrossing."

- Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times

"...touches on something elemental about how biography, inspiration, and history can combine to create something of lasting value."

- Anna Altman, The New Republic

"A marvel...a historical drama on an expansive canvas that is always engaging."

- Boyd van Hoeij, The Hollywood Reporter

Becoming Astrid - 2018 - Sweden - 120 min

The origin story of the author of one of the world's most beloved characters.

Teenaged Astrid Lindgren, leads a carefree life in rural Sweden. Eager to break free from her conservative upbringing, she accepts an

internship at a local newspaper where she attracts the attention of its married editor. When she becomes pregnant, she leaves home and gives up her child to a foster mother, and begins a journey of re-connection and creativity.

This film about an exemplary woman, made by women, is as much a pleasure as it is a lesson.
